Alexia Ereboni Yazdani

About

Alexia Yazdani is standing for re-election to the Council of the Law Society of New South Wales, having had the privilege of serving for the past three years. She has been honoured to contribute to the profession and help shape policies that reflect the realities and values of our diverse legal community.

Alexia’s journey began long before she entered the profession. Arriving in Sydney in the early 1980s with her parents and younger sister, she grew up with the example of her parents’ courage and sacrifice in seeking a better life. Their belief in opportunity continues to inspire her approach to service and leadership.

When Alexia joined the profession in 2008, she did not come from a legal background and had no established connections in the law. Her mother raised five daughters at home, and her father was a hairdresser. Like many, she built her career from the ground up with the support of generous mentors and colleagues.

In 2012, while five months pregnant, Alexia established her own firm. From a small office, she balanced practice with motherhood and experienced the realities of sole practice - acting as lawyer, receptionist, bookkeeper, marketer, and cleaner. That experience gave her a deep understanding of the isolation, burnout, and lack of support that many small practices face. It remains a key motivation in her work today.

Alexia currently serves as a member or Deputy Chair of the Law Society’s Property Law, Professional Conduct, and Diversity and Inclusion Committees. She is committed to continuing her service to the profession with dedication and integrity.

Priorities

  • Supporting small firms and sole practitioners. Small and solo practices are at the heart of legal service delivery across NSW. Alexia advocates for better access to resources, increased support, and more opportunities for connection.
  • Navigating AML/CTF compliance. With AML/CTF obligations becoming a reality for legal practices, Alexia supports practical, common-sense guidance that avoids placing disproportionate burdens on smaller firms.
  • Ethical and inclusive use of AI. Alexia is focused on ensuring firms adapt effectively to AI, while preserving client confidentiality and upholding professional standards.
  • Mental health and wellbeing. Recognising the significant pressures of legal practice, Alexia is committed to prioritising practitioner wellbeing at all career stages.
  • Mentoring. Having benefited from generous mentors, Alexia wants to expand mentoring opportunities across the profession, particularly for those starting out without established networks.

Beyond these priorities, Alexia remains committed to improving the culture of the profession, supporting gender equality, diversity, and access to justice, and advocating for real change in how lawyers work, lead, and support one another.

"I know what it means to build a career from the ground up. I want to ensure every solicitor, no matter their background, has the support, resources, and opportunities to thrive.

To ensure the Law Society has diverse and expert leadership, I am seeking re-election to Council with 5 other lawyers that I encourage you to support."
